Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Apostille, Embassy Legalization & Certified Translation Services

An apostille is a certification issued by a Secretary of State or the U.S. Department of State that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in another country that is part of the Hague Apostille Convention. You’ll need an apostille if you're submitting documents abroad for legal, educational, real estate, or business purposes in a Hague country.

Examples: Marriage certificates for dual citizenship, diplomas for foreign universities, powers of attorney for overseas property sales.

What’s the difference between apostille and embassy (consular) legalization?

If the destination country is a non-Hague country, an apostille is not sufficient. Instead, the document must undergo embassy or consulate legalization, which includes:

  • State-level certification

  • U.S. Department of State authentication

  • Legalization by the foreign country’s embassy or consulate in the U.S.

Amber-Nichole handles the entire chain-of-command process on your behalf, ensuring compliance every step of the way.

Can I get documents apostilled or legalized if I live outside of California?

Yes! AMN provides nationwide apostille services and embassy legalization for all 50 U.S. states, including Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories. Regardless of your location or where your documents were issued, we can assist you from start to finish.

How long does the apostille or legalization process take?

Processing times vary based on the state and destination country.

  • Standard Apostille: 5–10 business days

  • Expedited Apostille (select states): 1–3 business days

  • Embassy Legalization: 1–4 weeks depending on the embassy

We offer expedited options, courier return, and tracking updates.

What types of documents can be apostilled or legalized?

We regularly process:

  • Adoption Papers

  • Legal Contracts & Business Agreements

  • FBI Background Checks
